In 2024, we made 2 commissions for artists to work closely with 2 Salford Schools.
Artists and young people responded to and explored the theme of 'PLAY-FULL CITIES OF THE FUTURE' using Salford, their imagination and collaboration to create a response. Young people were involved in the recruitment process for the artists and young people’s ideas and voices are central to the creative processes that have taken place. Professional artist- Emma Martin worked with young people at Christ the King Primary School to develop a living & interactive exhibition of play-full spaces around the school environment. All children from reception to Year 6 have took part, working with their artist to imagine a city full of play! The commissions were funded by UK Shared Prosperity Fund & administrated by Salford Community Leisure, on behalf of the Salford CEP.
The projects centred around youth voice, co-creation and placemaking. |
At St. Ambrose Barlow, theatre company- The Knotted Project worked with young people to develop their own piece of Dance Theatre performance which they have co-created alongside the artists. The themes they explored include how young people often use technology and gaming to escape the mundane aspects of their life and get away from the ‘Ugly City’. Inspired by this, they imagined a city full of play that keeps them moving and engaged– a Play-full city, that they would not feel the need to ‘escape’.
