Stage Directions is funded by Arts Council England.
During the time period Stage Directions was commissioned as a project by the Youth Performance Partnership Fund (created & funded by Arts Council England & Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) we had to pause the programme because of the pandemic. Whilst we delivered parts of our programme as planned, some activities were disrupted or cancelled because of restrictions, school closures, staff furlough and many other factors. We adapted some plans to flex around the barriers that were created but ultimately lost months of delivery during the 2020 lockdowns.
Because of this disruption, Stage Directions with the support of Salford LCEP, The Lowry & Arts Council England will continue it's work into 2023- a 10 month extension to the original plan. The programme will run a streamlined version of familiar activities as well as some new offers for the city, families, young people and schools.
The Next Stage looks like this:

The Next Stage looks like this:
- Creative Schools: offering primary and secondary schools to book & design FREE activities with experienced Creative Practitioners for their students: this could be supporting curriculum delivery, afterschool provision, arts weeks, professional development or arts trips. This will be offered across schools in Salford and bookable within Summer Term. Priority will be given to schools whom are identified by the Schools Improvement Team.
- Community Delivery: we will continue to work with Salford Community Leisure to offer ONSTAGE activity across Salford within holiday-provision and local venues. In summer 2023 we will hold a streamlined version of our Summer Intensive which will also offer OFFSTAGE delivery and be held at University of Salford(TBC). Families & audiences will be invited to see the showcase moments of this work that has been built over regular sessions and the intensive week.
- Careers in Arts & Media: Stage Directions will look to create a suite of innovative digital resources which inform and guide young people into Creative Careers: building on the work begun at Beginners’ Call, we will work with a media partner to explore what resources can be the most helpful to young people considering a career in the creative and arts industries that can also be used by schools, careers advisors and youth workers.
- Cultural Education: this strand is a flexible delivery project which aims to listen and respond to the changing needs of our young people, schools and professionals. Within this delivery we can offer theatre trips and creative experiences to CYP & families, offer Arts Award provision to local providers and enhance our other strands of delivery in a specific and helpful way.
- Creating New Practitioners: through training in praxis as well as masterclasses we will offer aspiring creative arts practitioners introductions to a successful career as an independent practitioner as well as relationships with Salford arts organisations, schools and stakeholders. This will include training new Arts Award advisers and encouraging early career artists to consider creative education as a long term career pathway.
